I never thought I'd find a replacement for a pair of lace espadrilles that are like this crochet version. I wore the lace ones for 10 years until they wore out. This crochet style has the same romantic flair and a look that fits my fashion choices, however, they are cut differently than the satin toe version sold of this same espadrille.The entire toe box is soft cotton crochet material with a lining. The cut is almost toe cleavage, but not quite, yet still closer to the toes than the satin version. Bear in mind that because of the soft material, there is little support in the toe box and it will shoe every lump and bump of your toes underneath. That only becomes important because the heel strap is covered in burlap-y material and is very stiff compared to the soft toe box. The back strap also doesn't fit as snugly on the heel as hoped, so be sure to get the best fit for size or your foot may slide forward and further affect the "hug" of the back strap. By contrast, my lace espadrilles have a corresponding soft back strap, so the stiffness of this one was unexpected.That concern aside, the shoes fit well, and are quite pretty. A 3.7" heel doesn't seem that high but it is. I prefer a 2.5" heel in this style, but it's not a deal breaker. Impressively, the shoes are packaged in separate sleeves in their own shoe box, and I very much appreciate that attention to detail to help keep them clean. Ivory shoes in this kind of material can get dirty very easily, so here's a cleaning tip: Use an 8 oz spray bottle filled with distilled water and a few drops of Ivory Dish soap. Shake bottle and spray on a clean paper towel or thin cloth and blot the dirty area. If necessary, spray directly on the dirty area and keep blotting with a damp paper towel. Or spray directly on fabric and blot the same way with slightly damp paper towel/cloth and rub gently if necessary. Once clean, blot the soap mixture away with another paper towel wrung out in distilled water. Then blot with dry paper towel from top and underneath fabric until excess moisture removed, and air dry. The soft water helps clean better and also prevents any minerals or rust from depositing on the material. Works like a charm. FYI: This simple cleaning solution works wonders on carpet, fabric shoes and other clothing. Gentle but effective and can be repeated until the item is clean.I wear a Size 7 or 7.5 depending on the cut of the shoe. The 7 fits perfectly so I would say the sizing is true, but it all depends on your foot shape, width, and toes/swelling of feet. The toe box is pretty tight at the end without much upward room for toes. I have sheer nylon toe-lets that barely cover the toes and protect the underside of the shoe to alleviate toe rubbing and toenail damage to the material. It really helps minimize the material being stretched out above the big toe. The foot bed is hard, as is common for espadrilles without arch support. I happen to have high arches and a narrow heel, and they work perfectly for me. It is a bit of a challenge walking in a high wedge with a soft toe box and rigid heel, but I'm not wearing them to a footrace. They just aren't the most comfortable walking shoes for any distance, but the style is perfect.OPINION: Although I would have preferred slightly shorter ties, a toe box with more room and support from the lining, as well as softer, fitted heel strap, the shoes actually fit as-is, have the look I want and work well with my wardrobe.My photos hopefully show all angles of the shoe and especially the fit of the stiff back strap. Like I said, this is the first similar replacement pair of espadrilles for my beloved lace ones that I've seen, so I'm not being picky. Still, I thought you should know all the considerations before ordering. Knowing what I now know after receiving the shoes, I'd still buy them all over again.
